Rainy Morning: Big Sur

Cindy Milwe

Imagine a whole day

of games scheduled

for flowers. Peonies

organize volleyball.

Lupine, the sack race.

Poppies perform proudly

in their chorus: sing

Gershwin, Cole Porter,

end with a kick line.

There’s even an orgy

for dandelions—

yellow hair frizzing

out in wet grass.

The willow—protector—

admires their abandon.
